The Fu crew returned for the eleven month reunion special. Mad Anthony performed live in studio. It was like returning to the old neighborhood for one last ballgame. It didn’t take long for all of us to knock a few out of the park.

We don’t know if the Fu will ever return to live television. The show has been cancelled and returned a few times the last ten years. Our reunion show was a great signoff for our run. But you never know, anything is possible.

Until that day…

This just in: There will be no Fu finale this week. Last Friday’s show can now be considered the last episode.

As with the previous news, the reasons for all of this will remain private. Several of you have asked me to explain more, but doing so would be, you know, unprofessional. (I know “professionalism” and “the Fu” never go together, but just this once, it will.)

Instead, I’ll simply say thanks to the fans for keeping up with us, to the station for putting us on the air, to the bands that rocked the house, and to the Fu Crew for putting so much time and effort into the show with nothing but pizza or burgers as payment. You guys are awesome.

And with that, this is Cap’n Dave, signing off.

The ghost of Ted Sullivan must not have been too happy with our announcement of the show’s end, since – as you heard throughout tonight’s show – we got cancelled. No joke. For reasons that will remain behind the scenes (sorry, gossip hounds!), it was decided not to wait until May to end the show; instead, the series finale will be next Friday. It threw us all off guard, especially since we just came back from a lengthy break.

So, first, we’d like to offer our sincere apologies to the three local bands who were scheduled to appear in the now-gone upcoming weeks. You guys went out of your way to include us in your plans, and in return you get a big ol’ hole in your schedules. We’re understandably upset that you got such crappy treatment and now can’t be part of our send-off. On the plus side, we look forward to catching all of you live whenever you play in town.

Second, we want to mention that sister show Frank Zito’s Night of Frights is also going, going, gone. We were really looking forward to putting a second season together, but its cancellation was part of the same deal as the one that ended the Fu.

But! Not all is gloom and doom, for we still have a mega-super-ultra-awesome series finale in the works for next week. Mark your calendars and call in sick, because on March 26, Mala In Se will stop by to play some very loud music, some of your favorite characters will make one final appearance, and the movie, well… I’m going to keep the movie secret just this once. It’s such a perfect movie to feature on our last show, and I think you’ll enjoy the surprise.

So that’s it. We’ll see you next week for one last Fu!

Our copy of Silver Hermit turned was unusable, which we didn’t discover until it was too late to prepare another movie. I guess the ghost of Ted Sullivan is angrier than we thought.

No matter: We will return live next week, guaranteed or your money back. And we’ve already checked the movie to make sure it’s working. So tune in for Black Cobra III – the epic conclusion to the Robert Malone Trilogy!

Let’s get right to it: This will be the last season of Friday Night Fu.

OK, now back up: No, we haven’t been cancelled. The decision to end the show is an internal one. We’ve been planning the next stage of the Fu for a while, and as discussions rolled on, the plans evolved further and further away from the Fu as it is now. Eventually, we decided the best course would be to pull a Seinfeld by ending the show on top (well, as “on top” as the Fu can get, anyway), then start from scratch. It’s too early to announce what that scratch will be, but don’t worry – it’ll include almost all of the Fu Crew, as well as several of its best characters. (Plus, there’s a new season of Frank Zito’s Night of Frights in the works, too, so we’ll still be around for quite a while.)

In the meantime, we still have plenty of Fu to deliver. We have nine more episodes until the finale, some of which will feature some very awesome musical guests. (We’re also squeezing another rerun block in there, because darn it, we need our vacations!) The series finale is scheduled for May 28, and I promise you, it’ll be the one episode you won’t want to miss.

So that’s it. It’s the End of the Fu As We Know It, and frankly, I feel fine. The home stretch begins tonight. Be there!

Episode 66 – Original air date 01/15/10

The movie: Black Cobra 2 (1988, dir. Stelvio Massi)

Rogue supercop Robert Malone is back! This time, he’s off to the Phillippines, where he’s gotta work side by side with that guy who played Spider-Man in that crappy live-action TV series. Remember that show? The one with the awful effects and the wacka-jawacka music and the Spidey suit that looked like pajamas? Yeah, that’s the one. What was I talking about? Oh, yeah. Robert Malone and Spider-Man, together at last.

The Fu:

Hey, have you heard all about the scandal involving Jay Leno and the Tonight Show? You have? About eight billion times in the past four days? Well, buckle up for eight milion and one. Our big, clever take on the whole thing is that Jay Leno looks like a potato. Meanwhile, Stu brought his nephew to the show, Bernie hasn’t gotten over Avatar, and Dave’s Santa suit has become some sort of health hazard. Welcome to twenty ten! Or two thousand ten, if you want to say it like a jerk.

Episode 65 – Original air date 12/18/09

The Movie: Abraxas, Guardian of the Universe (1990, dir. Damian Lee)

Before he was Gov. Jesse “The Mind” Ventura, he was Jesse “The Guy Who Starred in Some Terminator Rip-off” Ventura. (He may have also had another nickname, too, but I can’t remember it right now.) He plays Abarax, a space cop on the trail of Sven-Ole Thorsen, who’s come to Earth to impregnate our women, or something. There’s a lot of glowing hands and references to VD, and then Jesse gets bare-ass naked with a little boy. Merry Christmas, indeed!

The Fu:

Swear Jar helped rock the house for our big Christmas special, because nothing says “Happy Holidays” like three songs about death, murder, and death. The Mobile Home Movies gang got their own show off the ground by talking about some movie about giant Smurfs, Santa got a naughty surprise in his workshop, Ryan and Jack got a jolt of Rednog, and, hey, was that McDuffy? And with that, we say goodbye to 2009. Happy Fu Year!
